Grocer – Online Grocery Marketplace Software

Grocer is a powerful online grocery marketplace platform that allows multiple grocery stores and vendors to sell products online through one system. Customers can browse products, place orders, and receive deliveries efficiently while vendors manage stock and pricing in real time.

Key features

What Grocer does, and why each part matters once you are running.

Multi-store & multi-vendor support

Run several stores or let independent grocers list under one roof, each managing their own shelf while the customer sees one shop.

Real-time inventory management

Groceries sell out constantly. Stock counts update as orders come in, so customers are not paying for items that left the shelf an hour ago.

Order scheduling & delivery management

Delivery windows rather than whenever-we-get-there. Essential for anything cold, and the difference between a repeat customer and a refund.

Customer mobile & web ordering

A weekly grocery shop is a habit, and habits live on a phone. Ordering has to work on both without the basket falling over between them.

Vendor dashboards & reports

Each store sees its own orders, stock and earnings without emailing you, and you see the whole picture across all of them.

SEO-optimized storefronts

Product and category pages built to be found, so searches for grocery delivery in your area reach you rather than a national chain.

How it works

A marketplace has more than one customer. Each side needs its own tools.

Stores and suppliers

List their range, keep stock counts current and pack orders for collection or delivery. They know their shelves better than any central system will.

Shoppers

Build a basket, choose a delivery window and pay. Grocery is a repeat purchase, so the second order has to be faster than the first.

You

Manage the stores, the delivery slots and the commission. Cold chain and timing are your real operational problem; the platform should not add to it.

Who it's for

Independent grocers going online
Existing shops with local customers who want ordering without building it themselves.
Township and suburb delivery
Areas where the national chains deliver badly or not at all.
Specialist food platforms
Halaal, organic, butchery or farm produce, where range matters more than price.
Buying groups and co-ops
Several small stores presenting as one catalogue with more weight behind it.

And who it isn't

Grocery is the least forgiving marketplace to run. If you cannot solve cold chain and same-day logistics in your area, the software will not rescue the model.

Built for South Africa

What Grocer handles that an offshore script has to be talked into.

Local payment gateways
PayFast, Peach Payments and Ozow — cards, instant EFT and the methods South African buyers already trust at checkout.
Priced and invoiced in rands
One-off price, paid in ZAR, invoiced locally. No currency conversion and no exchange-rate movement between quote and payment.
Your data stays on your infrastructure
Self-hosted, so you can answer where customer data lives, who reaches it and how long you keep it — the questions POPIA actually asks.
Support in your working hours
Based in Pretoria. When something breaks at 09:00 SAST, you are not waiting for an overseas support desk to wake up.
Courier options that exist here
Built with The Courier Guy, RAM and Pargo pickup points in mind rather than carriers that do not operate in South Africa.

What's not included

Worth knowing before you buy, not after.

  • Hosting and your domain. Installation on your server is free; the hosting account is yours.
  • Your payment gateway account, and the per-transaction fee it charges you.
  • Product photography, vendor onboarding and the words on your pages.
  • Marketing and customer acquisition — included only on the Custom plan.
  • Source code on Lite, Pro and Pro + Apps. Custom includes it; mobile app source is R39,000 as an add-on.
  • Support beyond your included period, which continues at R6,900 a year.
  • Apple and Google developer accounts for the mobile apps — roughly R1,800 a year and a once-off R450, paid to them directly.

None of this is unusual for self-hosted software. We list it because the alternative is finding out on a call.
